"We turn not older with years, but newer every day."- Emily Dickinson
Today is my 17th birthday...I don't feel quite much older, maybe just a little wiser. Turning 17 isn't one of the real "important birthdays." I mean, when you turn 15 you get your permit, 16 you get your license, and 18 you're an adult...Then it goes down from there. I can't even call and order a Snuggie off a commercial yet, I have to be "18 or older to call." The only thing you get when you're 17 is if you get convicted of a crime you can be tried as an adult, and you can get the adult library card pass at the Lebanon Library.

Another year goes by and it seems like I'm growing up super fast. I remember back in 3rd grade I tried to figure out how many days it would take till I turned 16, and it seemed like an eternity. I just wanted to be able to drive... Then in Junior High I figured out how long till I graduate. I only have one more year and a month to finish out my calculations, then I'll have to calculate how many days till I graduate college, get married, have children etc.etc.etc. The list goes on and on.
I know that I'll always have something to look forward to, something to dread, something to enjoy, and another day to come when I will get one year older. As for today I'm happy that I'm alive and healthy and ready to take the world by storm as a 17 year old.
And that was Lindsey's thought of the day, where Lindsey shares an Everyday Thought.

uh, i didn't know you were so nostalgic, what a nice trait. glad you are happy, even if laura bush is your bff! :P
ReplyDeleteHahaha tooo funny! Yes, I do have a heart and I can be sentimental at times. Today was just "one of those days" to reflect...
ReplyDeleteI love having things to look forward to. Each year seems to go faster and so less waiting. I am at the stage where I have less to look forward to in my own life and more to look forward to in my girls lives, but I like it that way! Wonder when Lily will start counting up to her 16th b-day, etc.. :)
