Official College Plans

"You are educated. Your certifican is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world."-Tom Brokaw

If you've been following my "college-picking" process this past year you will make note that it's been a stressful one. I went back and forth between Truman State University, Southwest Baptist University, and Missouri State University for the last 7 months. I've been so worried that if I pick the wrong school it will mess me up for the rest of my life. So, I decided that I better choose carefully. Due to the fact that most of my housing applications and other important enrollment was due on March 15, I went ahead and made my decision on where I'm going to college. Are you ready??? I decided on Missouri State University.

Now, I know what you may be wondering...Why did I pick this college over the others? Well, in the end it came down to a few factors: A) I will be in a city environment, which is desperately need to be around B) MSU gave me the best deal for costs due to my awarded scholarships C) It's only 50 minutes away from my home with my parents in Lebanon and D) I'll be able to establish good connections by living in Springfield with people who are working in the political field. In the end it's all about networking, which college would give me the best opportunities to network, meet people, and help me out the most for my future.

For those of you who don't know about what I plan on majoring in and what my career path plans in the future are, here is a brief description:

I'm going to double major in Political Science and Journalism with a minor in International Relations. My ideal job would be to be working in politics, ideally a senator/representative for a state/federal government levels. If being a politician on the main-stream doesn't work out I can always turn into a lobbyist. Despite how much everyone hates them I actually think that if you are lobbying for the right things then they aren't half bad. Also, I'd love to be a journalist if politics doesn't work out--ideally a political journalist. And also, I'd love to work somehow with the United Nations, even if I were just a staff assistant to an ambassador to some country I think it would be a great experience.

I know what you may be thinking, my goals, plans, and dreams are pretty far-fetched and right now you're doubting in your mind if I'm just dreaming too bug, and that I'll be let down once life gets a hold of me once I graduate college. But my response to you is simple: I don't care. I don't care what you have to say about me dreaming too big. I don't care if you don't think I'm smart or capable enough to be a politician, I don't care what the odds are against me to actually "make it" in the political spectrum. You see, it's the people who didn't listen to what everyone else told them that actually make it big.

If we all listen to the people who want to put us down and tell us we can't none of us will get anywhere in life. I understand that you can't just graduate from college and become a U.S. Senator, I understand that politics is a risky process that involves a lot of wheeling and dealing. It's because I understand this that I'm prepared for whatever life throws at me. I've got a long complicated plan of action to achieve my dreams. They're not going to come easy, but I will try my best to get as close to reaching them as possible.

And that was Lindsey's thought of the day, where Lindsey shares an Everyday Thought.
